Old Haverford maintains an active First Day (Sunday) School program for grades Pre-K through Middle School (grade 8). First Day School is concurrent with Meeting for Worship, starting at 11:00 AM on Sundays (Sept.-May). In First Day School, children learn about Quaker Faith and Practice through Bible Stories, through the History of the Society of Friends, and through service projects and arts and crafts activities. First Day School is an opportunity for integenerational sharing of stories, experiences, and ideas. The First Day School program relies heavily on curricula developed by the Religious Education Committee of PYM.

Last year, our friend Betsy completed nearly two years of service in the Peace Corps in Mali, where Peace Corps activities are focused on education and economic development. |

Recently, Betsy discussed her Peace Corps service with young Friends in our First Day School. Students asked questions about the customs, religions (Islam and Christianity) and culture of Mali. Thanks to Betsy for sharing her experiences. |

Children are expected to join in silent Meeting for Worship for part of their First Day School hour.
In fair weather, the First Day School children may enjoy some time out of doors. A fenced in playground area is adjacent to the Meeting.
Middle School and High School age young people are encouraged to attend events sponsored by the Yearly Meeting through its Young Friends and Middleschool Friends programs.
