Forum Schedule

An interesting series of forums is presented to stimulate spiritual growth and discussion of Friends testimonies and concerns. Topics vary and range from Quaker Faith and Practice, to Peace, to Friends and the Bible, to everyday concerns such as Parenting, Schooling, Aging, and so forth. Please check out the schedule and join us!

First Day School

Old Haverford has a lively and active First Day (Sunday) School program (11:00 AM) with many young fFriends attending each week. Click here to learn more.

Peace and Concerns

Old Haverford shares with Friends everywhere, the Peace Testimony, and works toward peace and justice in our community, our nation, and our world. For details click our peace-link. Also, visit NotMyWar.com.

Worship

Worship at Old Haverford is unprogrammed, silent Meeting for Worship. We sit in expectant silence and listen for that of God within. Click here for more information.

Library

Old Haverford's Library includes a large number of books for both children and adults on a number of topics centered around Quaker Testimonies, History, Worship, and also general interest titles in areas such as Peace and Social Concerns, Spirituality, Bible Studies, Children's Literature, and other topics. Many thanks to Ellie Knickman for preparing this searchable listing of our collection!

Bible Study

On the second and fourth Sunday of each month (Sept.-May) interested Friends meet to discuss selected passages from the Scriptures. Monthly topics are posted on the Old Haverford Calendar..

Fellowship

On the third Sunday of each month (Sept.-May) Old Haverford serves light refreshments after Meeting for Worship, to encourage Friends and new attenders to get to know one another, and share in the fellowship of our spiritual community. From time to time we also host pot luck suppers, pancake breakfasts, and so on. Check the schedule to find out more.

History

Welsh Quakers first settled in Haverford in 1682, and the Meeting -- founded in 1683 -- is the oldest house of worship in Delaware County. Click here to read a brief account of the history of the meeting. A list of persons buried in our burial ground is available here.

Community Outreach

Outreach takes many forms at Old Haverford. Each month, many pounds of donated canned food are taken to the Delaware County Food Bank to help those in need. In order to make our community more aware of Old Haverford, we also host Coffeehouse events -- Upcoming are the Philadelphia Mandolin Ensemble on Feb 17th 2007 and the Run of the Mill String Band on Mar 17th 2007. In addition, the Meeting hosts various community groups, like Girl Scouts, Havertown School Night Classes, and La Leche League meetings.
